"Little drops of water, little grains of sand,

Make the mighty oceans, and the pleasant land,

So the little minutes, humble though they be,

Make the mighty ages of eternity."

(From Little Things by Julia Carney)

If I were asked to define the very essence of photography for me, then Julia Carney’s poem best expresses my feelings. Photography enables me to experience the impossible – freezing a fleeting moment for eternity. In this respect it makes no difference whether the subject is movement, an inanimate object or scenery. Each one takes on a different look as time passes, as the lighting changes and as our own point of view changes. Photography allows you, albeit imperfectly, to continue looking at things the way they appeared when the photo was taken.

Photography is a way of sharing experiences, and creating new ones. A photo, like any work of art, stirs feelings and associations which are unique to the beholder. Freed from the restraints of reality and time, we are able to use our imagination and continue the frozen moment as we please. Once the photo has been taken, it takes on a life of its own. The photographer has no control over the experiences it invokes, which may or may not be similar to the original experiences.

Technical Information

Most of the pictures were taken using a Nikon 6006  or Nikon N80 with a Nikon 35-70 lens or a Tamron 28-200 or 28-300 lenses. The films I use are either Fuji or Kodak ASA 400. Neither filters nor a tripod were used for any of the pictures. Recently, I have started to use a digital camera, the Nikon D70.
